Owen was diagnosed in July 2011, we all were a little surprised since he is such a smart child and likes people and to be touched> When we thought of the stereo typical "autistic" person Owen didnt fall into that category. The onl things that put up flags was at 2 Owen had no verbal abilities and was unbelievably eduacated in his ABC's and 123's, which he taught to himself at 18 months old. Our pediatrician said that he would talk when he was ready but his father and I felt different we knew something wasnt right. Ever since the diagnoses Owen has been working with the Reach School, which was the best thing that could have happened to our family they have Owen talking, following simple commands, basically I feel like they turned a key and brought out the son we always knew we had. Owen is nothing short of amazing he is almost 3 now and is starting to read and can spell at a first grade level. The way we see it autism didnt disable Owen, Owen is disabeling autism!!!!!! We thank god everyday for Owen and even if given the chance we would never change him for the world.
