Team Running Strong 2011 in the Marine Corps Marathon
Greetings, to all my family, friends and collegues I will be participating in my 2nd Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C on October 30, 2011. I continue to be a member of the charity marathon team called Team Running Strong for American Indian Youth.
Running has always been a huge part of my life with the help of my family. and most especially due to my brother, Melvin Taliman Jr. whom I am so proud to say has been my running role model. I continue to run for a vital cause and purpose. That purpose is to raise much needed funds and resources for our American Indian Youth around Indian Country. Being a Native American and working for a Native Youth Leadership Project I know the benefits that a non-profit brings to our Indian youth and I am pleased to be taking it one step further by completing in my second 26.2 miles.
Since Running Strong began in 2004, the funds raised have helped to drill over 358 water wells on the Pine Ridge Reservation and Running Strong continues to do their part in assisting 13 families annually who are no scheduled to receive water through Indian Health Services or Water is Life Project.
Words can not describe how dear this organization is to my heart but a quote from Billy Mills himself should sum it up, " Running Strong is the turtle of non-profits...we go slow and steady with our programs but with the community we build, learn, improve, and we finish what we start...the value of our word is the biggest gift we can offer." So with that, like a turtle, I too will be running slow and steady toward that 26.2 mile finish line to help in the overall efforts that Running Strong for American Indian Youth is working to accomplish.
So with that, in the spirit of humanity, I am asking for your help in my efforts to reach my fundraising goal where 100% of the proceeds go directly to American Indian children and families.
Thank you all for your support and generous contributions.
God Bless,
Roshel
