Special Olympics SCV & TV and Hoops of Hope is hosting our 1st Annual Hoops of Hope Shoot-a-thon Contest on Saturday, April 7, 2012 at the City of Santa Clarita Sports Complex, 20880 Centre Point Parkway, Santa Clarita 91351. This will be truly a unique event featuring Special Olympic athletes, coaches, community, volunteers, and high school students directly raising funds for both organizations. The proceeds will be split evenly between Special Olympics Santa Clarita & Tri-Valley and Hoops of Hope. Please call 661.253.2121 for more information, to request forms and time slot availability or email lmayo@sosc.org.

We are seeking support and donations for our upcoming event. Please consider being a team member by making your own fundraising page to raise money for these two noble and worthy cause or donating to one of our team members for pages for Special Olympics Santa Clarita and Hoops of Hope. Our goal is to have individuals to see how many shots they can shoot in a set amount of time.

Special Olympics Santa Clarita offers athletic training and competition to athletes aged eight years old and above in a variety of Olympic-type sports. There are currently over 950 very motivated athletes with intellectual disabilities who train and compete year-round in twelve different sports. Special Olympics Southern California is non-profit 501(c) 3 organization. For tax purposes, our Tax ID number is 95-4538450. Over $650,000 is needed annually to support the operating costs of the program. Funds are needed to cover such expenses as sports equipment, uniforms for the athletes, facility rentals, bus transportation to competitions, and outreach expenses. Revenue is generated from grants, year-round fundraising events, and through the charitable contributions of the community.

Hoops of Hope is a non-profit organization started in 2004 by then 10-year old Austin Gutwein who wanted to bring awareness and raise funds for the more than 15 million children orphaned by HIV/AIDS. On World AIDS Day 2004, Austin shot over 2000 free throws to represent the more than 2000 kids who were orphaned during his day at school.

Over the past five years, Hoops of Hope participants have raised over $1,500,000. The money raised by participants has gone to sponsor hundreds of orphans, build a high school and 2 medical clinics in Zambia, a water project in Kenya and 2 orphan care centers in Swaziland. I'm doing this to help children who have been orphaned by HIV and AIDS. Money raised will be use to provide backpacks for orphan children in Africa. Each backpack contains basic hygiene and school supplies as well as a warm blanket.

Donating on this webpage is simple and totally secure. If you would like more information about Hoops of Hope www.hoopsofhope.org or Special Olympics www.sosc.org
