When I was introduced to the Ride for Kids in 2010 by fellow Spyder Ryders, Art and Rose Aquino, I was forever changed. I was so amazed at the showing of love and support that I decided then and there that I would never miss this event. When this club was formed it was decided that Ride for Kids would be our charity. The whole SRA San Diego family works all year long to do what we can to make a difference in the lives of patients and families affected by pediatric brain tumors.
This is not your typical charity ride. We gather to take the kids affected on a slow relaxed ride through the San Diego country side, for a brief few hours these kids can enjoy the day and take a break from the struggle that is their reality. The strength and courage displayed by these wonderful kids and their families in the face of such a challenge is amazing. The smiles on the faces as they embark on the ride are a pure and unforgettable sight you will never forget.
On October 21st, 2012 the Spyder Ryder of America - San Diego Chapter will join hundreds of others to help end the devastating effects of Pediatric Brain Tumors, as participants in The San Diego Ride for Kids. By making a pledge on our team’s behalf, you are supporting research, so that new therapies that extend the lives of children, will ultimately lead to a cure for this most devastating of childhood cancers. As the world’s largest non-governmental source of funding for childhood brain tumor research, the P.B.T.F is dedicated to not only eradicating this disease, but to providing support to families as well. Their educational resources deliver comfort and hope to families in need of information, and their college scholarship program gives brain tumor survivors a boost for the future. Mike and Dianne Traynor started the Ride for Kids program in Atlanta, Ga., in 1984, when a friend’s child was diagnosed with a brain tumor. After watching the tragic deaths of many children, they set out to help find the cause and cure of this childhood killer by soliciting help from their friends in the motorcycling community. The Ride for Kids® is helping find the cause and cure of pediatric brain tumors.
The money raised each year goes to research so that new therapies that extend the lives of children will ultimately lead to a cure for this most devastating of childhood cancers, providing support to families through educational resources that deliver comfort, hope, information, and the college scholarship program which give brain tumor survivors a boost for the future.
Please come join us at the ride on October 21st 2012 if you can. If you can't join us please make a donation and pledge to do what you can to make a difference.
