Dear family and friends, even though I haven’t been type 1 diabetic for very long I’ve already been to my first diabetes camp. I had a blast! It was the first time I felt like a normal kid again. I made new friends and learned all about insulin pumps. Before the camp I felt alone and I felt like I was the only one. Because of this amazing organization I got to meet people like me.
Please donate to make these camps available so people diagnosed with Type 1 can feel like they’re not alone.
Sedona
I'd like to add a note as a mom. Sedona was diagnosed Dec. 28, 2011. The first month was horrendous. All the information about what Type 1 is and how to live with it was completely overwhelming. I've heard the learning and ajustment process is likened to trying to take a sip of water from a fire hose. I had to ask 3 times before I was assured that her Type 1 is not a result of what she ate but the result of an over active immune system. (her immune system kills the cells in the pancress that make insulin,) The DYF camp we went to, 3 weeks after dx saved our sanity and our lives. Finally someone who knew what we were going through! We were provided with information and perspective and offered a light at the end of the tunnel. This organization was a life line. If you can, please give generously. Following is more detailed information.
