***PLEASE READ***UPDATE***
In just two weeks I've been able to raise the entire program cost for the build and I want to say a HUGE thanks to everyone who helped make this happen. *HOWEVER* I only have a fraction of what I need to be able to afford the flight to El Salvador, so I still need YOUR help! If you haven't yet donated but want to, please CONTACT ME DIRECTLY ( at AScudero@gmail.com ), as the funds I need to raise for airfare are donated directly to me, NOT through this website. Thanks again and Happy New Year everyone!!

Hello!
Thanks for taking the time to check out my First Giving donations page for my ‘Global Village’ build! I’m currently fundraising the trip costs and airfare for a Habitat for Humanity build in El Salvador this February, and I need YOUR help, to whatever degree you can offer it. Our team will be spending ten days working alongside El Salvadoran families building decent, affordable homes! Habitat’s mission is to “seek to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world”, and this is a great way for you to have a hand in making that goal a reality.
On El Salvador's Need
As Central America’s smallest and most densely populated country with over half the population estimated to be living in poverty, El Salvador has been particularly hard-hit by natural disasters. From earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to hurricanes and flooding, disasters in 2005, 2008, and 2010 have displaced thousands and caused hundreds of millions of dollars in property damage. In this past October alone, severe weather resulted in 34 deaths and damage to more than 4,500 homes. Organizations like Habitat for Humanity El Salvador are playing a crucial role in rebuilding the country both from these disasters as well as from decades of civil war and strife. The first Habitat homes were built here in 1992, and since then hundreds of homes have gone up, many due to Global Village builds like this one.
How to Donate
I am seeking to raise $1240 in program costs, which covers materials for the build, as well as room and board- these are tax deductible donations and a receipt will be provided by Habitat for Humanity International. If tax deductions are not a priority to you, I am also attempting to raise $600 to cover airfare from San Francisco to San Salvador- these donations will be personal gifts to me to cover the cost of transportation. My entire trip costs must be raised by December 31st, so I can use whatever you can offer as soon as possible. Whether it’s a donation of $100, $50 or $25, I greatly appreciate it! If you are unable to donate online, contact me about making out a check to “Habitat East Bay” with my Global Village ID number 'GV9359-2946' in the memo line.
Post trip slide show
As a ‘Thank You’ to anyone who is able to help me with a donation of whatever amount, on a date TBD after the trip (sometime in March) I will be hosting a slideshow/ Q&A/ potluck. This way you can see exactly what you helped to make possible, hear a bit about the trip and Habitat’s work in El Salvador, and even find out how to get involved in your own Global Village build in the future!
Please contact me with any questions or to make a personal gift to help cover my airfare at AScudero@gmail.com
Thank you for your time and support!
