Each year people put a great deal of thought and effort into giving gifts to the people they love and care for. And undoubtedly each year, one person on that list already has “everything.” This results in the inevitable question, “what do I give the person who has everything?” Alternative giving is a great way to give a gift to that difficult to shop for person.

Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins and Cortland Counties and the Trumansburg Area Churches (TAC) have partnered to begin fundraising for the house that Habitat will build on Salo Drive in Trumansburg, in 2012. Habitat builds simple, decent, affordable homes for deserving low-income families and relies heavily on the support of volunteers and donations to construct these homes! We have a lofty, $90,000 overall fundraising goal for the home but donations of any size are a big help. The TAC group already raised over $5,000 from raffle ticket sales for “Treman’s Backyard House” this fall – let’s keep the momentum going! As we celebrate the holidays with family and friends in our own homes, consider the joy that you’ll be bringing to a local family in need by helping them have a home of their own, too.
