Patrick Ryan was diagnosed with testicular cancer on June 4, 2012, had surgery on June 5, 2012, and chemotherapy on June 21, 2012. For those of you who know him, Patrick is very active and health conscious. The news that he was sick was simply devastating. Through the support of friends, family, and #TheMovement he is on track to make a full recovery. During this time, it was realized that the cancer would not have been detected if it were not for thorough screening practices. Screenings such as a simple physical examination and ultrasound scans can save lives despite what most physicians think. Young men and women are told to just examine themselves at least once per month. Patrick’s tumor was not palpable rendering personal and physical exams useless. If it were not for ultrasound screenings, Patrick would have been misdiagnosed with a hernia. #TheMovement is here to advocate for through screening procedures and to provide support for young men and women diagnosed with cancer or coping with a family member's battle with cancer. The ultimate goal is for everyone to demand through testing and raise money for members of #TheMovement to bring gifts to children on oncology units over the holidays. #TheMovement is in its infancy and will only grow from here. Thank you for all of your support, I can't wait to see you all out there.
