Let me start off by stating that two years ago I knew nothing about Autism.  No one in our families has it, nor do I recall meeting anyone with Autism.  But now I know all to well what it is, as I am a parent with, not only one, but two sons with Autism.  What does Autism look like you may ask???  Take a look at my oldest, when you first meet him you would just think he was like any other child you have met, but spend some time with him and you will see how he is different.  Most people only envision Autism as they saw it in "Rainman", this is certainly not the case.  There are very many varying degrees and each must be handled in different ways.  In fact, even my two sons are very different.  The number of children being affected by this disorder is steadily growing.  Please help the Autism Project of RI help families and help raise awareness.

A few Autism facts taken from www.autismawareness.com:

In 1994 the autism rate was rare and was estimated to be 1 in 10,000.

In 2004 the autism epidemic revised rate was estimated to be 1 in 200.

In 2005 the autism epidemic revised rate is now estimated to be 1 in 166
by the Center For Disease Control

In 2015 the statistics indicate the estimated rate could be as high as 1 in 7, if this 1994 to 2004 exponential growth rate continues at its present rate
