Advocacy Project- EMPOWERING WOMEN IN THE DRC
Thank you for visiting OUR fundraising page!
For several decades the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been impacted by the conflicts between different armed militia groups. Women have been targets of violence and discrimination by these groups and government officials. The prevalence of rape and violence against women in the DRC is of the highest in the world. Due to the instability in the DRC, these human rights violations against women have been underreported.
There have been many efforts by organizations, such as the Advocacy Project and SOS FEMMES EN DANGER to help women recover from these brutalities. They have been providing women with the resources to create their own quilts as a method of healing and fostering community among them. Women are moving past quilts to other sewing projects so that they can participate in the market and become self sufficient.
We are a group of students from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. Our goal is to raise $1,000 to provide supplies for these women so that they can craft items that can be sold on the market and begin to lead stable lives.
Thank you for your interest in assisting with this cause!
Sincerely,
Bianca, Kayla, Caitlyn, Alicia, Sheila, Ruben, and Matt
