Jumpstart Seattle at the University of Washington
Jumpstart at the University of Washington participated in Read for the Record!
Every year, Jumpstart sets a new world record by mobilizing adults and children across the country to read the same book on the same day. In Seattle, Jumpstart Team Leaders celebrated this annual event by reading to nearly 25 children at a Jumpstart Storytime at the Douglas-Truth Library. The celebration will continue this week as Jumpstart members and community volunteers will read and deliver books and take-home literacy kits to 20 Headstart classrooms in Seattle, reaching over 330 children.
Read for the Record is our kick-off event for the 2012 - 2013 academic year and is just one of many ways in which we are working towards the day that all children in Seattle enter school prepared to succeed.
How Can You Help?
- Donate what you can to our fundraising page. With our donated dollars, we will be able to strengthen our family engagement program by providing take-home literacy kits and family engagement nights for the nearly 330 children and families we serve in Seattle. 75% of all donations made to this page will go directly to the Jumpstart program at UW.
- Participate in one-time and on-going volunteer events throughout the year. Helping out at library storytimes, reading to children in the classroom, preparing classroom materials, and scrubbing our preschools are just a few ways you can directly impact the children and families we serve in Seattle. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for details on how to get involved.
Donating is fast and easy, and it makes all the difference. Thank you!
