Greetings! I will be taking part in the upcoming Vermont City Marathon relay, held in Burlington, Vermont, on Memorial Day Weekend. I have chosen to raise funds for Steps to Wellness, Fletcher Allen Health Care’s Oncology Rehabilitation program. I hope you’ll consider supporting this worthy cause.
There is cause to celebrate when a cancer patient completes his/her course of therapy. However, for some patients, the road back to health can be rocky. Cancer treatment can include surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy. These treatments can be debilitating, and often result in physical and mental setbacks. As part of Steps to Wellness, survivors are evaluated by a medical provider and a physical therapist. Specialized rehabilitation is provided if needed. All survivors take part in a 12 week monitored exercise program where they can train with other survivors. Not only do Steps patients gain strength and fitness, their fatigue and anxiety decreases.
Unlike cardiac rehabilitation, insurance does not currently pay for oncology rehabilitation. To pay for the exercise trainers at Steps, we depend on donated funds.
Thank you in advance for your support!
