Ricardo Corral's Fundraising Page
Ricardo Corral is an inspirational Achilles triathlete who has been competing in Olympic distance triathlons for over three years. We are raising money to buy him a proper racing wheelchair so that he may compete with the best triathletes in the world.
Triathlon is an endurance event consisting of swimming, cycling and running. These events are placed back-to-back in immediate sequence and a competitor's official time includes the time required to "transition" between the individual legs of the race.
For Ricardo, a below the knee amputee, the challenge is a little tougher. He swims, then instead of cycling he hand cranks - achieving times that qualify him for world class competitions. However, in the final part of the triathlon - the run - Ricardo has to use crutches or push himself in the cumbersome wheelchair he uses every day.
We would love for Ricardo to have a proper racing wheelchair - and we need your help to raise the $5,000 we need.
Ricardo will be competing in the Nautica NYC Triathlon on July 18, 2010. It would be great if he could arrive at the start line with the equipment that he needs to compete with the best in the world.
