A while ago, I was asked why I participate in the Ride For Life. I have many friends in the Gay and Lesbian community but I have been lucky in that no one close to me has had to deal with AIDS. So I’m not gonna lie, the first year I did it mainly to raise money and for the challenge of riding the 100 miles around Cayuga Lake. But after that first year, I began to realize the Political and Social importance of the Ride. AIDS is one of the VERY FEW DISEASES where the people who are suffering from it are specifically blamed for having it, the implication being that they did something wrong to get it. If we can raise awareness about the true nature of AIDS as a disease that attacks people regardless of class, race, gender or especially sexual orientation simply by PUBLICALY ASSOCIATING OURSELVES with the cause, then the ride will be a success. Of course the money is awfully important too, so please donate what you can. Every penny will help.
Thanks,
Adam
