In April 2010 I took part in one of the toughest multi stage events on the plant, the Marathon Des Sables in Morocco. The race is over a distance of 250km and takes place over 7 days and each competitor must carry all his/her supplies for the duration of the event.

I ran this event to raise awareness for Autism and also raise funds for the Ernie Els For Autism Foundation. This is a charity very close to my heart as many families around the world have to deal with this disorder and not many people are aware of what autism is. All funds raised will be donated to the Ernie Els Foundation.

The Els for Autism Foundation was established in 2009 by Ernie and Liezl Els and has since embarked on a capital campaign to raise $30 million for a 300-student school and research facility, the Center of Excellence, to be built in Florida .The Center will be the first of its kind in the world, incorporating all the services a child with autism needs in order to become a productive member of society.

It will combine cutting-edge education, therapy and research for children in the autism spectrum. Through its proposed digital learning program the Center will have a global reach, thus helping individuals and families all over the world, and will also help connect the international autism community with best practices and the very latest information and research.

On the 29th May 2011 I will be running the Comrades Marathon in South Africa. It is a 89km single stage Ultra Marathon and regarded as one of the greatest marathons in the world. I will be running the race with my good friend Haydn Holmes and spread the word on autism awareness and enourage folks to make a donation to the Els Foundation.
