It's that time of year again... On July the 4th, 2011, Golden Gate Basset Rescue will take part in the Independence Day Parade in the city of Novato, CA. This is our main fundraiser of the year. We rely on the pledges raised for this Waddle to fund the medical expenses for our rescued basset hounds.
This year has been very challenging so far for GGBR. We have taken in over 50 basset hounds so far this year, which is double the numbers from three years ago. The recession is hitting us hard, with many hounds being surrendered because of loss of income, moving home, can't afford vet bills etc.
As always, GGBR strives to meet all the medical challenges that come our way. So far this year we have seen medical cases with cancer, bone deformities, intussusception, all needing surgery. This is in addition to the routine medical bills for spay/neuter, shots, rabies, heartworm testing and preventatives for flea and heartworms.
That is why every dollar that you can pledge for Jess' 'sponsored Waddle' is important to us. We have very low operational expenses. No paid staff, no premises to pay for. Almost every penny raised goes to vet bills, boarding, training and items for the hounds.
We don't discriminate for age or health of the dogs we take in... our only limiting force is finances and foster homes!
