Running for the Wafa House
There is an incredible group of ladies in NJ that are doing some pretty amazing work. They have set up an organization called the Wafa House that seeks to help victims of domestic abuse, and is often their place of last resort. Some Wafa House volunteers are grandmothers awoken in the middle of the night to come to the rescue of abuse victims. In many ways they are modern day superheroes.
The Wafa House is in desperate need of money both for ongoing operations and to reach their ultimate goal of opening a shelter for victims of abuse, many of whom have to live in the basements and rooms of kind-hearted individuals. I would like us to help them reach this goal.
This April, I will be running on behalf of the Wafa House in the Marathon De Sable, a 7-day, 251 km/156mile long ultra-marathon (the equivalent of six regular marathons) in the Sahara Desert. Its considered by some as "the worlds toughest foot race." The longest single stage is 91km/55miles long. If that’s not bad enough, you have to carry everything you need for those 7 days while you run.
My biggest fear in doing something like this is giving up during the low points of exhaustion. Knowing that I’m in the desert for a cause I believe in, with the support of the people who have donated for this cause, will hopefully keep me going during the low points.
Thank you,
Ahmad
