Aishah Simmons's Fundraising Page
Thank you for taking the time to visit my Girl/Friends Fundraising Page!!!
A Long Walk Home, Inc.’s, the non-profit organization co-founded by my dear friends and colleagues Salamishah Tillet and Scheherazade Tillet in 2003, is ready to celebrate the 1st Birthday of the Girl/Friends Summer Institute, our sexual assault prevention and sexual health education program for teen girls in Chicago.
Last year's pilot program in the North Lawndale community of Chicago was such a huge success that we already have doubled the amount of our applicants and will extend the program to three-weeks, train 15-girls, and offer them an increased stipend of $600.00.
As a member of A Long Walk Home, Inc.’s Advisory Board, I’m writing to ask you to please help me make Girl/Friends 2010 an even bigger success.
I need your help to raise $1800 by June 30.
The easiest way is to sponsor a girl’s attendance and make a tax-deductible donation of or up to $600.00 by sponsoring the attendance of one girl in our program.
We target students in the North Lawndale community of Chicago because it has one of the highest incidences of reported sexual violent crimes in the country. One in three girls is sexually assaulted before the age of 18, so young girls from North Lawndale are an extremely high-risk population for sexual violence.
At the end of the three weeks, each Girl/Friends student will have undergone extensive training by sexual health educators, worked with local artists to create a community exhibition, and have the necessary tools to be a sexual health peer-educator and social justice leader in both her community and school.
You can donate online with a credit card. All donations are secure and sent directly to A LONG WALK HOME by Firstgiving, who will email you a printable record of your donation. If you’d rather send a check or money order, please make it payable to A Long Walk Home, Inc., write “Girl/Friends Summer Institute,” on the memo line and mail it to:
A Long Walk Home, Inc., 1658 N. Milwaukee Ave, Suite 104, Chicago IL 60647
Your tax-deductible donation of any amount will make a profound difference.
Thank you in advance for your generous contribution.
