Hi Guys,

Today I'd like to share with you all about my passion for nature, especially trees and I need your support!!!
At school, for my 5th Grade science project, most people in my class, picked up several science projects; but I love trees and I want to save earth from global warming, (as that's my passion) and my mom says she has been seeing this in me since my childhood, anyways....) so I decided to choose to save-an-acre of rainforest of the world, by Adopting-an-acre of rainforest...

Why save rainforests:

• Rainforests act as world's lungs! They are also the world's thermostat, they regulate temperatures and weather patterns of the whole earth, though they only occupy less than 2% of the total world area. ( Also, rainforests are the home to several animals and plant species. We get world's best medicines from trees, whcih cure several diseases like cancer, etc! )
• "1 hectare (2.5 acres)  of rainforest absorbs 1 ton of carbon dioxide (CO2),  in 1 year." As you know CO2 is the single main cause of global warming on earth. And this is like controlling 1 million cars from running on roads, polluting us with their bad emissions!
• And the fact is every second we are losing a forest area of the size of two football fields! ie. 100,000 trees are cut down every second! At this rate, we'll be running out of fresh air very soon!

Ways to Adopt-an-acre of RainForest:
Well, there many ways: Fundraising is the key, of course.
On doing research on the internet I found out that it needs only 35-50$ to adopt an acre of rainforest and prevent it from destruction. Contacting various organisations, I found out that organisations like EarthFoundation.org, sell their T-Shirts and other products to raise funds...

I feel, that I can be creative with the ways of raising funds.
One idea, that I got and would love to share with you all today is- to go for "GO GREEN" projects. Less use of plastics- The plastics bags, as they are not biodegradable, are harmful to our plants and trees.
1. I'd like to set up a drawing contest in our school or community on "saving our trees and forests".
2. Whoever participates, will get their posters affixed to a re-usuable cloth bags, which I'll sell to their parents for a low-cost. So, parents also would love to buy them and be proud to carry their kids drawings on their bags!
3. And whenever they go shoppping, the parents would love to use these bags, instead of the plastic bags!
4. The money we get from selling these reusable cloth bags, will be used for buying-an-acre of RainForests land.
That's my idea! I hope you liked it and you will participate too!

A quick list of my personal committments include:-
1. Participating in a 1mile Marathon race, at my school district.
2. Start an event at my school by coordinating with my school Principal and participate in that event; "StandUP, Take Action Against Poverty" event, on October 17th, 2009, to help show support to the poverty nations in the world. (For more information on this, log onto the UN Website.)
3. When shopping, use cloth bags and no more plastic bags- (even if I have one, I'll only make the best reuse of those plastic bags, but no more getting plastic bags from shops again!)
4. No more using of tissue papers for cleaning at home ., Also, I'll help educate others on this. Only use the best cloth!!!
5. Also, henceforth, I'll buy only a green memorial gift for my friends and for my family.
For Example: The other day I bought this cute little gift, for my mom, which she loved it so much!!!! You can buy this too for your family and friends...
This gift is all bio-degradable, natural as it's made of clay! and very helpful to others…..My mom got her hand burnt in a fire accident and often her hand pains and she needs a hot/cold therapy or a massage.
So, I bought her this "Thermipaq"...a clay based technology for soothing pain relief, with an option of both hot and cold massages, much better than those gels and electric massagers! Go, check it online now....
Also, I want to keep editing my personal websites, blog, post my reports on it, place ads on it, and use that money to help save rainforests.
