In 2008, our daughter Megan was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). PKD is typically genetic, however there is no known family history of the disease. Megan was lucky enough to not have to go on dialysis, and in 2011 our family started the process of kidney donation. Her mom, Susan, was a great match and on June 28, 2011, Megan received a new kidney at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. While there have been setbacks since the transplant surgery, Megan is doing well and is looking forward to the future. She and her mom will be walking the 5K at the Illinois Marathon and I will be joined in the marathon relay by my brother Harold, sister-in-law Janet, and Megan's friend, Meredith. You are welcome to join us in supporting the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois.
