“If you do what you love, you never have to work a day in your life.”
This is why I do what I do and why I love it so much:
Chris, Raquel and Mario. These are three students I met my very first day in the classroom. A year and a half ago they were shy, emotional…typical kids. Three students seen them reach for the stars; I have helped them realize their goals and accomplish them! They are three of ~ 200 students I have been lucky enough to work with for the past year and a half.
Without Citizen Schools they would have probably been fine in school with good grades. Passing from one grade to the next, but that is not all we are about. We develop youth, we are brain developers. Over the past year and a half I have been able to see my students morph into little adults, from children to teenagers with passion, opinions and dreams. Without Citizen Schools they probably never built a robots, held a mock trial in a real courtroom that lead to the dream of being a lawyer or have seen the inside of the Office of Medical Investigator. They probably would not be able to speak confidently in front of a hundred people or lead their peers to success. This is what I have seen in the past year and a half, with the students in this program. I love my job.
Now that you know why I do what I do, this is the part where I ask you to donate your money. Donate however much you can spare: 1, 5, 10 or 100 dollars. Please donate to keep our program afloat so the students at Van Buren can continue to succeed and reach their goals. If you cannot donate, please send this page to your network. It would help greatly!
Thank you so very much!
