Team Running Strong 2011 in the Marine Corps Marathon
Being a part of the possibilities......
On October 30 2011, I will be participating in the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC as part of Team Running Strong. Our goal is to raise money to fight poverty and need in Indian Country.
Team Running Strong is part of Running Strong for American Indian Youth, a national non profit that has been working to help American Indian families meet their basic needs for over 20 years. American Indians suffer food insecurity and hunger at twice the rate of the general population. Many reservation communities still lack basic amenities such as runnning water, proper housing, and working utilities. They are also among the most underserved by the health professions, and suicide is the second leading cause of death for American Indian youth ages 10-24. Running Stong works to alleviate these problems through programs that drill water wells for families, support youth initatives, create community organic gardens, and more.
This is why I'm asking all of my friends and family to sponsor me in my efforts to run 26.2 miles in support of Running Strong's important programs. Your support will make a true difference to children in American Indian communities across the U.S. Any amount you can give is greatly appreciated.
The knowledge that you share in my commitment to this important cause, that you too want to be a part of the possibilities, will help motivate and inspire me mile after mile come October 30. I will be keeping you dear to my heart and we will cross the finish line together!
