Alex Sherman's Fundraising Page
Thank you for visiting the Squirmin' Shermans' fundraising page to help us raise money for and awareness of Down syndrome at the 2009 DSAGR 3rd Annual Buddy Walk at Richmond International Raceway (RIR)!
The Buddy Walk was established by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) to promote acceptance, awareness and inclusion of people with Down syndrome (DS) and to celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October. It has evolved into the single largest awareness vehicle for DS worldwide. At least 250,000 people were expected to participate in over 275 walks last year!
We had so much fun last year at the University of Richmond campus!! There was:
- Fun, live entertainment- Louisiana Territory, Betsy Lynne and the Boys, Rockitz.net, Jeff Beckman, The Firecrackers, Miracles in Motion, The Dreamers, and Richmond Zumba; facepainting, moon bounces, hula hoops, sidewalk chalk, and bubbles
- Lunch- provided by our sponsors
- Raffles & Silent Auction- raised over $3,500 in the Silent Auction!!
- Advocacy/PossABILITIES tent, featuring organizations that support individuals with Down syndrome
- Walk around beautiful Westhampton Lake!
- And the best part of all- a parade of all our Buddy Captains!
Don't forget to visit www.vimeo.com/873299 or www.vimeo.com and search for DSAGR to see the video from the 2007 1st Annual Buddy Walk (created by Becky's Buddies Tom Ogburn). This will give you a glimpse of the excitement in store for this year!
Mommy (Jillian) can't be there because of a wedding that afternoon, so she's going to be running in a 10K benefit for the children's hospital of Richmond, but Daddy (John), Kierlyn & I would love to have you join us for the Buddy Walk. Just click on "Join this team" at the top of the page and register to walk!
If you can't join us for the fun, you can still help support Alex, and the DSAGR and NDSS, by donating to the DSAGR through this page until the end of December. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts. And don't forget to check with your boss about whether your company does matching gifts!
Many thanks for your support and love -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone else who you think might want to help!
