Happy Holidays!
The holidays remind me of what I am grateful for. I also think of important people in my life who weren't so lucky at one point. Like my best friend from childhood, Jen. Jen grew up in a family just like mine. She was a ballet dancer, a talented piantist and a really funny girl. When college rolled around, she received a full scholarship to Smith. But Jen had many emotional worries and no one coul quite help her at the time. She slipped out of touch but finally resurfaced over a year ago.
When Jen disappeared from my life, she was going through hell. It began when a guy she was dating got her hooked on heroine. Her addiction led her to stealing, homelessness and doing whatever she could to survive.
But she's back again and she is sharing her stories and her own personal fight through poetry (http://www.antrimhousebooks.com/gates.html).
I set up this page in honor of Jen and her fight to overcome drug addiction, prostitution and so many other demons. I know the economy right now sucks. But if you really care about fighting sexual exploitation and human trafficking, you can do something. If you're short on monetary funds, you can donate just $5. Or, you can create your own page and ask your friends and family to donate money. Its really easy, just use this link: http://www.firstgiving.com/npo/13242.
