The baby picture of Leah is one of our favorites from her first birthday, almost a decade ago. It gives us a twinge sometimes too, because in the years since autism took hold, we can't think of a time when she has been this happy to have goo all over her hands and face. 

When Leah was diagnosed, almost eight years ago, we were thrown into the deep end with few life rafts. Networking with other parents was probably the best things we did to help our daughter and ourselves. We encountered many who were prepared to label her, but few who could point us toward solutions. Since then, parenting Leah has been a crash course in education, advocacy, biology, nutrition, and medicine, among other things. That parent-to-parent support has been a godsend. Through TACA, we try to offer the life rafts that were hard for us to find.

The past year has been Leah's best thus far; we have seen some gratifying forward progress, which reinforced another lesson: Never give up. We will keep fighting for her quality of life, and for that of the families our TACA chapter is reaching. At our TACA meetings, parents continue to get the support and information they need to help their children be the best they can be. Best of all, almost all of the services TACA offers are provided free to those families.
