Thanks for visiting my fundraising page!
As many of you know, I have been volunteering with AYUDA since the summer of 2007. This year, I will be taking on even more responsibilty within the organization. As a Volunteer Advisor I will be helping to recruit and select volunteers for AYUDA's 2011 programs in the Domincan Republic and Ecuador. I will returning to the Domincan Republic this summer with a group of volunteers to educate and empower children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. We will continue the outreach program, visiting homes in rural areas to conduct family education sessions and focus groups. Working with our in-country partner organization, Aprendiendo a Vivir, we will plan and organize educational workshops for youth with Type 1 diabetes and teach them how to better manage their illness to prevent complications later in life.
AYUDA is a non-profit organization that works to empower youth to serve as agents of change in diabetes communities around the world, strengthen local diabetes communities by promoting youth leadership, and motivate youth with diabetes to lead healthier and happier lives. I am very excited to be working with AYUDA throughout this year to improve the lives of so many children living with diabetes. While there is no cure for diabetes at this time, we have the ability to make a difference by providing these children with the tools they need to live happy and healthy lives and to prevent the complications of diabetes in the future. I am working hard to carry out this mission through AYUDA and would greatly appreciate any support that you can give!
Some facts to consider:
$25 covers the cost of transportation to send one child to camp
$50 sends one youth leader to rural provinces to conduct diabetes education workshops
$110 funds a weekend at diabetes camp for one child
$500 will provide educational materials for 120 kids for one week of diabetes camp
