Hello friends and family!
Over the past 4 years, we’ve raised almost $5,000 together to help find cures for juvenile diabetes and breast cancer. This year, I'm asking for your help in another truly worthy cause: ending violence against women and girls everywhere.
As you know, this is an issue I care deeply about. That’s why, in addition to my volunteer work with Women for Women International, this year I’ll be walking in UNIFEM/USNC’s Walk to End Violence Against Women and Girls on April 18th. This powerful event seeks to accomplish two crucial goals:
- Raising money for UNIFEM’s efforts toward advancing women's rights and achieving gender equality worldwide
- Showing support for the International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA) currently before Congress
I-VAWA was introduced in the House and the Senate on Feb. 5, 2010. If this landmark piece of legislation is passed, all US foreign assistance programs, such as anti-poverty measures and educational aid, must also incorporate proven solutions to ending gender-based violence.
Here’s how you can stand with me:
- Make a tax-deductible donation of $25, $50, $100 - or any amount - to help me beat my fundraising goal of $1,000
- Call, write or e-mail your Representatives and Senators to encourage them to support I-VAWA
My birthday is just one week before the walk, and there’s nothing I’d rather do to celebrate than join with friends and family in putting a stop to violence against women and girls all over the world.
Thank you!
-Allison
