*So excited to have reached my goal! Thank you all sooo much! If you want to donate, but see that I have reached my goal, please don´t hesitate to do so! Any excess funds donated for this project will go to support and purchase materials for the primary grade English Club that has recently been started by myself and another WorldTeach volunteer, as well as purchase additional teaching materials to replenish the kits or fund other activities as needed at Institución Educativa de Santa Ana.*
Hi Everyone!
As a volunteer English teacher with WorldTeach at Institución Educativa de Santa Ana in Santa Ana, Colombia one can’t help but notice the extreme lack of supplies and materials available to both the teachers and the students. Teachers lack appropriate teaching materials such as picture books, workbooks, hands-on learning games, crayons, paper, pencils, erasers, and other basic necessities needed to run a classroom. For students in the primary grades, much of their learning is dependent on visuals that the teachers simply do not have. Many students come to school without pencils, crayons, or notebooks because they cannot afford them; therefore many times they are unable to complete classroom activities and assignments that I have planned for them.
I have three amazing Colombian homeroom teachers that I teach English with on a daily basis. My goal is to raise $1,000 and use the donations to create three “English Teaching Kits”, one for each of these teachers to be in charge of and use for the remainder of this year and the years to come with their students. I hope to purchase materials for the kits that relate to each grade level curriculum, such as picture books, hands-on learning games, puzzles, DVDs and visual aids, as well as basic supplies such as pencils, erasers, paper, crayons, markers, and glue to be distributed, shared, and used as necessary. Donations will also be used to purchase waterproof bins to protect these materials from the elements, such as rain and extreme heat, and to aid in easy transport from class to class. I realize that it is impossible for me to distribute supplies to each and every one of my students, however I feel that it would be very helpful for the teachers to have access to these supplies in the kits for students who are severely lacking and in need.
Please feel free to e-mail me with any questions that you may have, I’ll be happy to answer them! And be sure to let me know if you have donated so that my students, my homeroom teachers, and I can thank you!
I really appreciate your support! Thanks so much! :)
