Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
My mother grew up knowing about Huntington's Disease but never thinking that she could have it. Her Grandfather had it, but her mother was told that if she reached 50 without showing symptoms then she wouldn't get it. Well 3 years ago my grandmother (My moms mom) tested positive for the HD gene. Of course this brought allot of questions for her 5 children, would they get Huntington's? Two of them decided to be tested, My mother and my Aunt, they both tested positive for the gene, but have not been diagnosed with Huntington's at this time. Over the past 3 years we have become increasingly aware of the need to help with fund-raisers, to provide money for research and hopefully to find a cure for this horrible disease.
This is why we are putting on:
Hotcakes for Huntington's Disease and HD Walk for A Cure!
We will be having a Pancake breakfast at our Mill and then walking to the state line, which isn't far. You can be in to places at once! Michigan and Indiana! We will also be offering tours of the mill, and don't forget to stop in at the Old Mill Store. The event will be held on May 3rd. at Greenfield Mills. For more information about the mill and to download the pledge form and brochure you can visit our website at: www.newrinkelflour.com
Please come join us for a great day and help us to find a cure for this devastating disease, and for those that can't come... well that's what this website is for!
The disease is relentlessly progressive, often taking between 10 and 25 years to fully manifest. HD is a genetic, neuro-degenerative disease for which there is no cure or treatment. It is always fatal. Most late stage HD patients are totally dependent upon a care giver, usually a family member; they cannot walk, speak or swallow. HD patients usually die from pneumonia, heart failure or other complications. Juvenile Huntington's Disease (JHD) occurs when a person is diagnosed with HD before the age of 20. It affects children as young as two years of age. JHD is more severe and progresses much faster.
There are 30,000 persons that are currently diagnosed with HD, and each of their siblings and children has a 50 percent chance of developing it. Anyone can carry the gene and develop HD, regardless of age, race ethnicity, gender, geographic location or socio-economic status. HD is a "family disease," not just because it is inherited from a parent, but also because it profoundly affects the entire family unit emotionally, socially, and financially. Because of this, there are over 790,000 persons that are impacted by the disease. Please visit
http://www.hdsa.org for more information about Huntington's Disease.
We need YOUR help to find a cure or treatment that haunts our family. Won’t you please take the time to help us reach our goal? Help us make this the LAST generation to know Huntington’s Disease! Don't give 'til it hurts...rather, give 'til it feels GOOD!
Lu 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
