Amanda Truesdale's Fundraising Page
This April 21st I will be running my first Boston Marathon. Running a marathon has been a personal goal of mine for many years. My late husband, Brian, and I enjoyed running together and we had hoped to run the Boston Marathon together one day. Unfortunately we never had the chance to do that. About one year ago I joined a running club and have found running to be very therapeutic.
I have been given a wonderful opportunity to run for the "MassGeneral Marathon Team Fighting Kids' Cancer...One Step at a Time" running in the Boston Marathon to raise money to support pediatric cancer research at the MGH. I have also been given a special opportunity to be part of the MGH Pediatric Partner program. I am running in honor of Stephanie a 19 year old girl who has Leukemia and is currently undergoing cancer treatment at the hospital.
I am very blessed to have a healthy little girl, Ava. She is my biggest supporter and loves to help me train riding in the jogging stroller. As a mother myself I really feel for the families of children getting treatment for cancer. I know that the services and research my fundraising is providing is invaluable to patients and families. I am very proud to be running for such a worthy cause.
I set out to run the Boston Marathon this year for many reasons....in memory of Brian, for my own personal healing, and simply as a goal I wanted to accomplish. Because of Stephanie and other children seeking care at MGH this marathon has become about something so much bigger. Instead of thinking about the past, those 26.2 miles, I will be focusing my energy on the future and the research and the cure that lies on the road ahead.
I have been training very hard preparing for the race but I can't succeed alone. I need your help to reach my fund raising goal of $3000. I am counting on the support of my family and friends to not only finish the race, but also to help fight kids' cancer.
