First, let's remember how it is back home: 1 in 9 children will not live to reach the age of 5; in every 100,000 birth, 950 mothers will die (90 times higher than in US); and one doctor attends 30,000 patients (1:400 in US). These are staggering statistics that, unfortunately, we are getting used to.

Team Tanzania is made of Tanzanians and friends living and working in United States, who feel the need to support Touch Foundation's efforts to address the state of heath care system back in Tanzania. While being abroad disconnects us - for better or for worse - from realities of poor health care infrastructure, we believe we have better opportunities in helping raising awareness and fundraising, to bring about change, albeit small, in overall access, delivery and quality of care in Tanzania.

Based in New York City, Team Tanzania has met once and plans to meet in April to refine our goals, and see how we may grow more as a Team and as part of Touch Foundation.  Our pleminary goal of $5,000 could cover books expenses for 15 MD students, meals for one year for 8 Bugando Univ. students, or 4 Doppler fetal heart monitors. And that will not be a small achievement.
