GLOBAL AUTISM PROJECT

Paddle for Autism Awareness - Denver 2009 Denver,  Colorado

Amber Rae's Fundraising Page

Thank you for visiting this fundraising page for a special event put together by Steel Jones (my second son) for The Global Autism Project called The Paddle for Autism Awareness.

The event takes place next Saturday (8/15) at City Park in Denver, primarily to raise awareness (and money too) for programs and therapies that help children and families affected by this neurological disorder (It's really an Infomation Processing Disorder, as I see it) .

As you may or not know, Tom's and my son Knight , 8 years old, was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum 6 years ago, after a series of seizures and some milestone developmental delays. Since his diagnosis, with help from alot of internet research, some amazing doctors and really effective protocols (many quite unusual) -- Knight has made significant progress and is a wonderful, funny, spirited, smart mouthed boy.

Since Steel became involved with GAP, I decided to step outside of our own autism experience and try to help others going through similar situations but without the same sort of funding or access to the information that we have had.

All funds donated benefit the work of the Global Autism Project. This is a non-profit organization that works with children with autism in developing countries, providing training in Applied Behavior Analysis and sustainable business practices to existing autism centers. The fundamental belief that all children with Autism and their communities deserve effective resources guides the Global Autism Project's work, as well as the belief that education leads to understanding and acceptance of differences.

The Paddle for Autism Awareness is the signature fundraising event for the Global Autism Project. This national event pairs experienced kayakers with children with autism and their friends and families for a day of summer fun. Many of these children will go out on the water for the first time in their lives! But this event is not just for children with autism. Please visit the website to learn how you can get involved: www.globalautismproject.org.

Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.

I know in these changing economic times that giving is difficult, so if you can give a little ($10) that would be great -- but if not at this time -- see if you can contact your local Autism Society or GAP to volunteer or show your support in some way -- every action counts.

Thanks everyone.  These kids are incredible and they teach us to think in a different way and to communicate differently on so many levels in our world.  I really do wish for all parents with kids on the Autism Spectrum to have access to the information and the therapies available that can so make a positive difference in their lives and the lives of their children.
