Hi Everyone!
Thank you so very much for visiting my Personal Fundraising Page!!
My husband, Bill, and my kids, Kylie and Madison, and myself will join my other family members and will be attending a Huntington's Disease ("HD") Walk in Neenah on Saturday, August 27, 2011. (The picture to the right is from last years walk!)
As many of you know, HD affects my entire family. My grandma had it and died from it. My Aunt Toni has it. My mom, Dawn Meyers, was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease several years ago.
HD is a progressive neurological disorder that affects the central nervous system and is characterized by dementia, involuntary movements, depression, etc. My mom deteriorates on a weekly/monthly basis. Her short term memory is non-existent. She is unable to do those activities of daily living that we all take for granted every day like getting dressed, brushing your teeth, eating, taking a shower, just to name a few. My dad, Greg Meyers, is an amazing caretaker, and he takes wonderful care of my mom!!
Today, HD directly affects a total of about 30,000 people in the U.S., and at least 100,000 of their blood relatives live with constant uncertainty as they look for signs indicating that they, too, may have inherited the gene that will cause progressive disability and eventual death. There are NO medications to cure this disease. That is why it is so imperative that we raise money so that research can be done to find a cure.
Because my mom has HD, my brother, Jake, and I are living at risk and so are my children, Kylie and Madison.
Last year, we walked this walk, and I personally raised $1,200. This year, my goal is to raise $2,000 for the HD walk on August 27, 2011. Any donations you would like to make would be GREATLY, GREATLY, GREATLY appreciated!!!!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to our fundraising efforts.
Many, many, many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
Also, we are looking for walkers to join our team this year so if you are interested in walking, please let me know, and we can register you (and your friends/family/kids) for the short walk on August 27, 2011!! Riverside Memorial Park in Neenah is a beautiful park on Lake Winnebago, and the walk/park are lots of fun for the kids too!!
Love,
Amber, Bill, Kylie and Madison Schumacher
