When I crossed the finish line in 2010, I announced my retirement to anyone who would listen. I'm here today to tell you that I'm back to training. This time, I'm racing for my favorite brother-in-law (full disclosure: he's the only one I have).
On October 15th, 2010, he was diagnosed with colon cancer at the age of 27, less than three months after he tied the knot with my favorite sister (again: the only one I have). Ron will finish chemo at the end of May. To say that it's been a nightmare for both he and my sister is an understatement. We're thankful for those who have provided food and prayer and all of the doctors and nurses at Miriam Hospital in Providence, who have been involved with Ron's care.
I'm raising money and awareness for the COLON CANCER ALLIANCE, a non-profit group that works to increase screening rates and survivorship by providing support and education by furthering research and advocacy efforts in the hopes that more families won't face what the Amore's have.
After a solid break from the gym in the fall, I've been swimming, spinning, and running my way back into shape and training for the Crabman Sprint, in Matunuck, RI on July 31st, 2011! I'll SEE YOU AT THE FINISH LINE!
PS -Thank you for visiting my fundraising page for COLON CANCER ALLIANCE. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
