Team Larkin 2011

Join us for the annual pasta dinner kick off for Team Larkin.  Friday February 25 at 6:00 in the old gym at St Matthew School 1303 Lincolnshire Drive Champaign 61821.  Manzella's has once again generously donated our dinner and Johanna and Sarah will speak to us as Global Ambassadors for the Special Olympics sharing our their lives have been enriched as athletes.   Let me know if you plan to join us at AmyArmstrong67@gmail.com

Since 1999 I have taken the plunge for Special Olympics Illinois.   From 1999 until 2005 I plunged alone but in 2006 after the birth of our daughter Larkin, TEAM LARKIN was created.   Larkin Murphy Armstrong is 5 years old and was diagnosed with Down Syndrome, Infantile Spams and Lennox-Gastuat catastrophic seizure syndromes.

Every year we add more team members to plunge for the Special Olympics of Illinois.  TEAM LARKIN 2008 had over 125 plungers and in 2009 and 2010 we had over 180!!!

Our youngest plunger so far has been 2 years of age and our oldest 60 ... something.  Last year we have over 180 plungers for Team Larkin and we welcome anyone and everyone as part of the team.  Please send this email to anyone you think may want to join us.

You are going to join more than 5,150 people statewide who will voluntarily jump into freezing cold water in the middle of winter as we take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunges for Special Olympics Illinois. I guess you could say that you are “Freezin’ for a Reason”!

I ask that each plunger try and raise $75 but it is not mandatory.  If you attend Friday night and help me you can earn up to 6 service hours and if you attend Saturday and help and/or plunge you can earn up to another 6 hours.  You MUST join via the website link http://www.firstgiving.com/teamlarkin  just by clicking on "join this team".  The Special Olympics requires that you register via the website to ensure correct counts and hours.

Each plunger will be given a Team Larkin t-shirt and Sweatshirt.  ONLY PLUNGERS may have a sweatshirt

Pre-Plunge Spaghetti Dinner:  Friday February 25, 2011 at St Matthew school in the old gym.  Dinner begins at 6:00.  Johanna & Sarah the Global Ambassadors for the Special Olympics will be with us once again to share their story of empowerment and fun with the Special Olympics.

Please go into the water with only the bare minimum of clothing as getting out makes it hard to take off items such as sweat pants, sweat shirts.  Also each plunger should wear closed toed old tennis shoes that you don't mind throwing away afterwards.  Do NOT wear flip flops or crocs as they come off as soon as you hit the water.

Thank you for visiting my Polar Plunge fundraising page. They say anyone with a little guts and a warm heart can take the Plunge and I am one of those folks. I’m collecting donations from family, friends, co-workers and anyone else who wants to support the nearly 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and more than 4,000 Young Athletes ages 2-7 of Special Olympics Illinois! Your donations will help provide athletes with intellectual disabilities the chance to participate in year-round sports training and competition.

To reward your generosity, I’m going to join more than 5,150 people statewide who will voluntarily jump into freezing cold water in the middle of winter as we take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunges for Special Olympics Illinois. I guess you could say that I’m “Freezin’ for a Reason”!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to make a contribution to the LETR Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Illinois.

Many thanks for your support – and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
