Thank you for visiting my fundraising page!
The day that we were told that Charlie had Spina Bifida is one that will never be forgotten. Jon, Isabella, and I were excited to go to my routine 20 week ultrasound and see our new baby, but we had no idea what the outcome would be. Scared, helpless, angry, and sad were just some of the emotions that struck us during those first few days after the diagnosis.
We were put in touch with the Spina Bifida Association of Wisconsin, and were immediately put at ease with literature and resources to help us gain an understanding of what Spina Bifida is, and also get a sense as to what kind of life Charlie would have. The SBAWI was a true lifesaver, and continues to help new familes come to terms with a diagnosis of SB. They also work in the community to educate women of child-rearing age on the importance of folic acid and how it reduces the risk of SB. Most importantly, they create a community of parents, kids, and families that are tied together by SB with fun events and outings.
It is hard to belive that Charlie is now 2 years old. He is such a joy, and you can't help but be touched by his strength when you are near him. He has amazed us with his courage and determination. Since last year's sprint, he has gone from crawling, to cruising, to walking with his walker. Just within the past month, he has started taking his first independent steps! We know that the road ahead is still full of many obstacles, but with the support of our family, friends, wonderful doctors, an awesome Physical Therapist, and the SBAWI, we know that Charlie will continue to perservere.
Please consider supporting SBAWI by attending the 18th Annual Sprint at Mt. Mary College. If you are not able to attend, consider making a donation to Team Charlie, and remember to spread the word to your friends and family. Feel free to contact me with specific questions or for more information regarding the sprint. We can't wait to see all of you on August 13th!
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too!
