We have created this fundraising site in honor of Ruth Morgan. Beginning in 2004, she began a 5 1/2 year tough fight against Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Triple Negative BC is an aggressive and not-so-common form of the disease. When it was discovered, it had already found its way into 14(?15?)) of mom's lymph nodes. We all knew that she was in for a fight.
Little did we know what a fighter this woman was!
Ruth underwent chemo and radiation, and fought back the disease for a couple of years. 2 1/2 years ago, the cancer recurred and she again took on the fight of her life. The cancer metasticized in her bones and began to make its way through her skeleton.
On October 13th, 2009 (her 66th birthday), Ruth finally could not handle the pain on her own and entered the hospital. She was given morphine and a barium injection to help control the pain. We strongly believe that the barium did make a difference, as her last couple of weeks were not horribly painful for her. We brought her home under hospice care and kept vigil with her. She was on a low dose of morphine and was actually able to spend a few wonderful days enjoying her family and friends.
After such a valiant fight, Ruth found peace and entered Heaven on November 22nd at 12:38 am.
Ruth has shown us in these past years that she is an incredibly strong woman. We have been inspired by her on a daily basis. She had a beautiful heart and brought joy to so very many people through her friendship and music.
Ruth was a musician all of her life - she played the accordion and the keyboard. From her victory over 2,000 other accordion contestants in the Chicagoland Music Festival in Chicago in front of 63,000 people at the age of 16, to her many years of entertaining at various clubs, dances, and events.. music has held a special place in Ruth's heart.
We have had many compliments on her Christmas CD and her Accordion CD. (If you are interested in obtaining one, contact Denny Morgan at dwm@lafvb.com.)
Ruth was a loving daughter, wife and mother.. a loyal caring friend.. and a hero to us all.
The Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation
It is now commonly understood that breast cancer is not one form of cancer, but many different "subtypes" of cancer. These subtypes of breast cancer are generally diagnosed based upon the presence, or lack of, three "receptors" known to fuel most breast cancers: estrogen receptors, progesterone receptors and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). The most successful treatments for breast cancer target these receptors.
Unfortunately, none of these receptors are found in women with triple negative breast cancer. In other words, a triple negative breast cancer diagnosis means that the offending tumor is estrogen receptor-negative, progesterone receptor-negative and HER2-negative, thus giving rise to the name "triple negative breast cancer." On a positive note, this type of breast cancer is typically responsive to chemotherapy. Because of its triple negative status, however, triple negative tumors generally do not respond to receptor targeted treatments. Depending on the stage of its diagnosis, triple negative breast cancer can be particularly aggressive, and more likely to recur than other subtypes of breast cancer.
TNBC Foundation is devoted to finding targeted treatment for triple negative breast cancer. With your help, we will find a cure.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
Many thanks for your support.
