Caitlyn Langley is a young lady who has been living with Aplastic Anemia since October, 2001 when she was 5 years old. After years of immunosuppressive drug therapy , Caitlyn is feeling very good. Although she feels good now, she will deal with side effects to the drugs, therapy and the disease her whole life. The only cure is a bone marrow transplant and after four bone marrow drives and millions of people being checked, she does not have a match. Our only hope is to fund research to find a better cure. The Caitlyn Langley Research Fund has been established through the AAMDSIF in order to find that cure.
Aplastic Anemia ia a rare, bone marrow failure disease where the stem cells are destroyed and the white, red, and platelet cells are never produced. To manage this disease, there is drug therapy and blood and platelet transfusions. While managing the disease the patient is tired, bruises easily, and infections can be fatal.
