“A civil rights march on wheels!"
I am officially back on the bike! I have not ridden for Braking the Cycle for four years due to foot injuries. Instead, I participated as crew support and it was satisfying in its own way, but now I am ready to join the riders again. I just finished my first group ride…38 miles. If this were the ride, I would have only 247 to go!!
I started participating in long distance bike rides benefiting NY based AIDS charities in 1999. It began as a way to support my friend Beth, whose brother Ira died of AIDS. It continues because of them, but also because the ride has become a distinct part of my life.
Braking the Cycle raises much needed funds for Housing Works, founded in 1990 to fight for housing rights for people living with HIV/AIDS. Housing Works has expanded their services to include medical care, mental health services, case management, prevention, advocacy (impressively, on the local, state, national and international level), job training and placement...the services go on and on as does the need.
The 285 miles from Boston to NY are not easy. There are more challenging hills then you can imagine. I will laugh and I will cry and I will beg to get to the end—but I WILL get to the end.
I am asking for your help. I am raising $3500 so any donation large or small is appreciated. You can donate on line at: www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/amydanziger-tenenbaum/brakingthecycle
Or, if you prefer to send a check, please make it out to Housing Works and send it to me at:

Warm regards,
Amy
