MISSION: Chicago Fair Trade works to reduce global poverty by increasing support for Fair Trade in the Chicago metro area through education, advocacy and targeted consumer campaigns. We are committed to the principles of trade that fairly compensate people for their labor, permit dignified working conditions, and promote ecological sustainability in production techniques. WHAT DO WE DO? •We educate people about fair trade and its role in reducing global poverty through public events, tables at neighborhood fests, and materials on fair trade. •We work to increase the number of stores and shops serving fair trade in the Chicago area. Currently, Volunteers are working to compile a directory of fair trade store and shops. •We make links between Fair Trade and worker issues here in the US – all workers need a living wage. Fair Trade stabilizes communities and reduces migration. •We ask large institutions like universities, stores, restaurants and faith communities to make a commitment to using fair trade products.
