Dear friends, 

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Anj Granieri and I am a young singer/songwriter/pianist, music teacher and (recently) became a composer for the Oprah Winfrey show. For almost a decade, it has been my priviledge to write, perform and produce my own music for those kind enough to listen. Likewise, it has been my personal passion to help break down barriers and unite people through the universal language of music. However, in the wake of such a difficult global climate, I have felt a recent tugging on my heart-strings to do something that would help those who cannot help themselves. So this July, I have decided to travel to Romania by myself to volunteer and live in an underprivileged orphanage through an organization called United Planet. 

In preparation for this trip, it is my goal to raise $3,000 of donations for the children of Valea Screzzi, Romania. This country, in its post-communist world, suffers from a severely weak economy, and with a non-adoption policy with the U.S., orphanges continue to be overrun. Children are starving for attention and affection, as much as they are for a pair of shoes, medical supplies, or a new toy. 

The $3,000 donated will be helping to purchase things like diapers, band-aids, shoes, games, food, clothes, toys and more. It will also be helping to fund my work overseas, as missionary work, (believe it or not) is not cheap. Missionaries are required to receive quite a number of pricey vaccinations, pay for medical and emergency insurance, as well as airfare, orientation, room and board etc.  

In closing, I want to say that I understand that here in the USA we are suffering in our own way from a recession, and that money is not something being easily thrown around. But as Anne Frank once said " No one has ever become poor by giving". So I hope you will find it in your heart to support me in this project.
