Andrew Abernathy's Fundraising Page
Hi everyone!
It's Andrew and do you know what time of year it is? It's UNC Dance Marathon time! I may have petitioned you last year for this charitable cause, but for those who I have not, then I'll briefly explain: UNC's Dance Marathon raises money to support the UNC Children's Hospital. One hundred percent of donations go directly to the hospital. Our Children's hospital cares for the underprivileged children of this country. Our funds will go to support the family of the patients, either to pay for the care they receive, for house or car payments, for groceries, for anything that the family needs to be with their child and for their child to get better. Sadly, the hospital NEEDS us to do this every year because it is not funded by the state and it survives almost primarily from donations.
So, what we do is dance for them! As dancers, the 800 caring UNC students stay on their feet for a full 24 hours while people sponsor their efforts. During the 24 hour period, dancers last year were visited by the basketball, soccer, and field hockey teams - all of whom did skits and entertained for us. Many step teams and performance groups donate their time to keep the dancers going, so this is a huge event. Last year, we raised just shy of $237,000! Every year our fund raising increases and we're looking to blow last year's total out of the water! For additional information please feel free to visit our website at

Now for me, this year is a little different. Unfortunately, I will not be participating as a dancer for this year's dance. However, I will be a wandering Moraler. They work in six hour shifts to support and encourage our wonderful dancers. Last year I sent around a fund raising page that was a secure and easy way to donate to the cause. As a Moraler, I am not officially signed up for DM until January, but I'd like to get the ball rolling right now! Within my fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi, former president Matt Illinitch and I have been making a huge push for our brothers to participate in DM. Currently we are third of all teams for most donations! This is a great cause and a good way to get our name out (we are a small fraternity with only 26 brothers). I went ahead and made this page so it would be easier to donate.
Thank you very much, and remember - it's for the kids!
Sincerely,
Andrew
