Cafe Kandahar's Fundraising Page for the St. Bernard Project
Thank you for visiting our fundraising page!
We at Cafe Kandahar have chosen the St. Bernard Project as an organization for our fundraising efforts. The St. Bernard Project has been assisting many families affected from Hurricane Katrina by helping to rebuild people's homes and livelihoods in both St. Bernard and Orleans Parishes. To date the St. Bernard Project has assisted with completely rebuilding over 280 homes for families. Even before the recent oil spill, the St. Bernard Project also began a project in conjunction with LSU to open a Center for Wellness and Mental Health. Now more than ever the rebuilding of people's lives depends not only on physically rebuilding houses, but also assisting with psychologically rebuilding their lives; thereby completing the livelihood of those most affected by the recent difficulties. The St. Bernard Project has served more than 300 patients to date in the Center for Wellness and Mental Health.
In addition, due to the recent Oil Spill disaster, the St. Bernard Project has also set up a "Good Work, Good Pay" program to fully train and pay livable, union-level wages with full benefits to local fishermen affected by the oil spill who are unable to fish, as well as returned veterans who are struggling with employment and those residents who find themselves unemployed. Helping people in times like these truly connects us to a healing source and a strong sense of purpose by assisting those in need. Together our efforts can actually make a difference.
For those of you familiar with our cuisine at the Restaurant, we have been sourcing wonderful seafood from the gulf for years now, connecting with local families and fishermen, supporting the livelihoods of such a wonderful community. No amount of oil could ever dampen the rich tradition and history of what makes Louisiana, the cuisine, and its people special.
Our special fundraising dinner which takes place on June 22nd will be a six-course New Orleans themed menu with beverage pairings for each course. The cost is $115 and $40 of the ticket price will be tax deductible with proceeds going towards St. Bernard Project. All of the donations will be visible on this fund-raising webpage.
Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts. All of your donations are tax deductible and you will receive a letter from the St. Bernard Project for your generous gift. Please feel free to contact Cafe Kandahar or the St. Bernard Project should you have any questions. And feel free to visit the St. Bernard Project's website at www.stbernardproject.org.
Many thanks in advance for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might be interested in donating also!
Sincerely,
Chef Andy Blanton and the Cafe Kandahar staff
