I came to Citizen Schools to be a positive role model for the younger generation and my community. When I joined Citizen Schools, the first thing I noticed was the great culture of achievement on campus. There were positive messages on the walls and students wanted to be a part of that.
In my three years at Citizen Schools, I always think back to my first year on campus. I had a student who had a very low reading level and poor math scores. He had trouble speaking in front of the class because of his lack of confidence. It was a long journey of practicing and more practicing. With the help of flash cards, multiplication charts, and a lot of coaching my D student became a B student. Not only did he change his grades, but he changed his attitude and became one of my best students.
Seeing the results of my dedication and how my student rose to his potential made an impact on me. I invested my time and energy in something special that I am a part of – the students here at Citizen Schools.
My baby steps encouraged my student to take a giant leap. You, too, could take baby steps to make a huge difference in the lives of the students here at Eastway Middle School. Any and all donations are welcome and will add up. Please consider investing.
