Annual Memories Walk 2011
Hi Everyone,
Thank you for coming and hearing about this year's Memories that Move Us Walk. Each year in October, a big group of us walk to honor and remember someone we loved. Our Memories Walk raises money to help grieving children who had someone in their family who died, either their mom or dad, or their brother or sister.
As part of my work at a grief center called The Children's Room, I have been working with children in support groups for many years. We meet every other week with a big group of children, teens, and parents who are all grieving a similar loss. Through talking circles, artwork, physical expression, and healing rituals, children can be together and feel support and acceptance. Being with these children as they share memories, rebuild their lives, and help each other is inspiring.
I'm walking in memory of my dear friend Marcela, who died from pancreatic cancer when her children were young. I'm also walking in memory of George's brother Frank, and in memory of our dear friend James who died from a heart attack when his children were under ten. I have seen how big a difference it makes to have grief centers like The Children's Room provide caring support through peer group programs, educational workshops, and community outreach.
A donation of any amount will help us maintain our program and further our goal to ensure that every family is placed in a group, regardless of their ability to pay. We have a waiting list of families who want to join our program. Please help us tell these families that we have an open space waiting for them.
Thank you! ~ Anne & the Favaloro Family
