Paws in the Park 2008

Annie Cook's Fundraising Page

Thank you for pawsing to visit my fundraising page!  My name is Annie - the candle dog - and this is my story...

Lots of noise - lots of other dogs talking.  I couldn't make out what they were saying.  Some were singing the blues - some were crying - some were snoring and some were singing joyfully!  Where am I?  What is this place?

A noise from under a blanket several feet from me scared me.  It was stirring and I heard a yawn...out popped another friend!  Apparently we were roommates at this strange place.

I heard humans talking - they have such a strange language - I couldn't understand a word.  I saw one coming toward me - it looked like a female - she wasn't so big.  She was showing her teeth - I darted under the blanket of my roommate.  She won't see me there...Suddenly, I felt the sensation of being lifted in the air - higher than I could ever jump.  The human girl had me in her arms - she wasn't snarling - she was smiling!  She was happy to be with me!  I heard the others talking and calling her Sam.

Sam was a volunteer at the strange hotel I found myself in.  She wanted to play!  She ran with me, threw a round thing that was strangely addictive - I had to chase it - I had to keep bringing it back to her - over and over again we played this game until we both dropped to the floor panting!  We got drinks and I settled onto her lap for a quick nap.

It seemed like a dream...napping in a little girl's arms - she was rubbing my head, scratching my ears, kissing my nose....I felt happy and content.  Just then, Sam jumped up - she was excited and moving with me in her arms toward another human female.  She must have been a friend - she hugged her and called her mom.  I was not sure what this "mom" person was doing here but she was talking really fast and patting my head and rubbing my ears..."mom" smiled at me too - I think she likes me!

We went into an area where other humans pulled out papers and sticks to scribble with.  Everyone was very excited - I was still with Sam - my new friend.  I was tired but curious as to what we were doing in the big room with strange things on a table that sounded like bells...people would pick it up and talk to it - how odd!

After what seemed like an eternity - Sam and mom and I got into a box that moved pretty fast.  I looked around and saw trees and grass moving by and other boxes that moved fast!  Next thing you know - I am in a place that is warm and friendly feeling.  I got a nice warm bath - ooohhh - I smell soooo good!  I had a dinner fit for a Great Dane!  I had a good-nite drink of water and I was feeling pretty tired.  There's a soft bed that I was laid on - and from that day forward - life has been a dream.

My "mom" takes me to work with her every day.  She has a store that people come to see me!  I get biscuits for greeting customers and I have big birthday "smell-a-brations!"  I know that she isn't my "birth-mom" but I know that my family of angels saved me and gave me a second chance at a dog's life!  Who knows what would have happened to me if they wouldn't have adopted me....other dogs and cats aren't so lucky.

That's my story - in a nut shell.  I know lots of tricks - but I am BEGGING you to please support the Topeka Helping Hands Humane Society build a new shelter hotel for my friends.  Help me help them!  Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts.
