I am raising funds for the Cornel West Academy of Excellence, a non-profit organization started to address many of the needs of minority at-risk male students in the 2nd - 6th grade.  The academy works to address various issues affecting young  boys. Academics, Self-Esteem, Strategic and Critical Thinking, and Philanthropy are key areas  that will be addressed.  Currently there are 33 young men in the program and they are all working hard to be the best young men they can be. 

According to a report by the Justice Policy Institute in 2002, the number of black men in prison has grown to five times the rate it was twenty years ago, when there were over three times as many black men in college as in prison.  In 2000 there were 791,600 black men in prison and 603,032 enrolled in college. In 1980, there were 143,000 black men in prison and 463,700 enrolled in college.  This trend needs to be reversed and soon.  It will take the united efforts of the proverbial "whole village" to raise these children. 

All small non-profits need donations to stay afloat.  I know times are tough for every one but if you can find it in your budget to help please do.
