Welcome to Special Olympics-Area 9’s first FirstGiving page! We have set up this page to assist with our fundraising for our upcoming Las Vegas competition. Read more below!
We are excited to have been selected to represent Area 9 in the Special Olympics National Unified Sports Bowling Tournament. This event - the 19th Annual Tournament - hosted by Special Olympics North America, Special Olympics Ohio, and Special Olympics Nevada - is being held February 18-20, 2009, in conjunction with the United States Bowling Congress (USBC)Tournament, at the Las Vegas Nevada Cashman Convention Center. Special Olympics athletes and unified partners will fill all 60 lanes!
Area 9 is sending to the tournament One of only Three 4-person teams chosen from the Commonwealth. In addition to us (Clay and Ben), our team, the New River Strikers, includes our two unified partners - Ryan and Erika. The cost of the tournament, including our travel, is about $900 per person. YOU can help us defer some of the cost by making a tax-deductible contribution to Special Olympics through this site.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING YOUR LOCAL SPECIAL OLYMPICS ATHLETES AND VOLUNTEERS!! And, don't forget to forward this page to others who you think would want to add their support!

Special thanks to NRV Superbowl in Christiansburg, VA and the NRVUSBCA, who collectively (offline) are supporting this event with a $700 donation.
Thank you for your support! If we are fortunate enough to raise more money than what is needed for the tournament, all additional money will be used to support the local Special Olympics bowling league and other local Special Olympics programs.
CLAY CALDWELL and BEN NORRIS (Area 9 Athletes)
Area 9 offers year round sports programs – bowling, basketball, swimming, softball, track and field, alpine skiing, volleyball, and soccer – to athletes throughout the New River Valley through our very popular Special Olympics Unified Sportsâ Leagues. Unified Sportsâ brings together athletes with and without intellectual disabilities in a setting where all are challenged to improve their skills. Participants develop friendships and an understanding of each other’s capabilities through a spirit of equality and team unity.
