Special Olympics Virginia

NRV Area 9 State Basketball Championships Stafford,  Virginia

NRV Basketball's Fundraising Page

Thank you for visiting NRV Basketball's Fundraising Page.  We are excited to be sending three basketball teams to Special Olympics Virginia's State Basketball Championships in Stafford, Virginia on March 20-21!

We plan to send 36 athletes, partners, and coaches.  It costs approximately $60 for each person attending.  You can help us defer some of these costs by making a tax deductible contribution to Special Olympics through this site.  Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. Your donation will help Special Olympics in the NRV maintain and expand its programs to benefit the hundreds of athletes that compete in sporting events throughout the year.  ALL DONATIONS ARE USED TO SUPPORT LOCAL SPECIAL OLYMPICS PROGRAMS.

We also invite you to come out and cheer us on at any of our local events.  We've just completed three local tournaments - one at Cassell Coliseum; one at Pulaski High School; and, one at Roanoke College.  But, we'd welcome you at any of our practices - Tuesday nights from 7 to 9 at Blacksburg Recreation Center through March 17.  Next door, at the Aquatics Center, many athletes are also involved in our swimming program. March 28 we will begin Track and Field at Blacksburg High School from 2-3:30 - readying for Spring Games at Cupp Stadium at Radford University on April 26.  Our local season will end with our Unified Softball League, which starts April 7 at the fields at Kipps Elementary from 7-9 pm.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone else who you think might want to support Special Olympics in the New River Valley.

If you are a fan of Respect, Inclusion, and Unity, you are already a fan of Special Olympics.  Be a fan.  Donate, participate or volunteer today.

Special Olympics, in cooperation with IDA/NRV, offers year round sports programs - bowling, basketball, swimming, softball, track and field, alpine skiing, volleyball, soccer and a walking club - to athletes throughout the New River Valley through Special Olympics' very popular Unified Sports Leagues.  Unified Sports brings together ahtletes with and without intellectual disabilities in a setting where all are challenged to improve their skills.  Special Olympics athletes and their unified partners develop friendships and an understanding of each other's capabilities through a spirit of equality and team unity.

The Stafford basketball tournament is one of four statewide competitions to which we send some of our athletes annually.  The other statewide competitions are Alpine Skiing in January, Fall Championships (bowling and volleyball) in October, and Summer Games (bowling, swimming, track and field, and softball) in June.  While we would love to send all our athletes to all competitions, funding limitations always lead to difficult choices.
