We are two weeks away from this life changing journey. Not only will we go to Haiti to attempt to help change the lives of those who were devastated by a 7.1 earthquaty in Haiti, but I am certain that our lives will also be changed by what is going to transpire.
$1 per DAY - Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere. 71% of the population lives below the extreme poverty level. Haitian families struggle to provide for their children daily. Most of these children come from families with three or four kids and the entire family lives on less than $1 a day. Every Dollar Helps, Please consider making a donation TODAY.
We have made contact with a local organization Sion Fonds and Foyer De Sion Orphanage. Sionfonds works to assist rural Haitians, to improve their quality of life. We do this by providing, education, job training, community improvements and healthcare. Sionfonds hopes to mitigate some of the effects of poverty and lack of opportunity that cause families to give up their children or migrate to urban slums, where they are not likely to find the opportunity they seek.
I will travel to Haiti from February 13 - February 21, 2010 to work with local Haitian organizations to support the rebuilding process. My arrival will be approximately one month after the devastating Earthquake and many of the supply and resource centers will be better stocked by that time. We will work with one or several schools or orphanages by purchasing food, supplies and materials to help them with their recovery.
I will be documenting my trip with a blog and photos. Depending on Internet access, it may be when I return before I can send photos, but you will see where your money has gone.
We will be getting our hands dirty, doing whatever is necessary to make an impact in our short time of Haiti. We hope to work through one of the local schools or orphanages.
